Curse Of The Bambino

It's Babe Ruth.
The curse of the Bambino lives in Turner Field...and the Oracle shows that there is a Braves lineage to prove it.

Babe first cursed the Mets in 1935, without even knowing who the Mets were, when he donned that Braves uniform.

He passed it on to Elbie Fletcher in '35 when they were teammates...
...then Elbie passed it on to Warren Spahn in 1949...
...who passed it on to Phil Niekro in 1964...
...who passed it on to Jeff Blauser in 1987......who passed it on to you know who in 1993.
And you thought the curse of the Bambino was dead. Curses don't die...

The Mets just acquire them for a player to be named later.

Again the bats fall silent in September! I made this argument a while back and that is that the real problem with our offense is the lack of a hitting coach who is effective. We haven't produced on a consistent basis since the 2000. How many times has a Met player said, "Yeah, I've really been working with Rick Downs, and it has paid off." None.
Where would we be if Rudy Jamarillo was our coach/mananger? We will never know...

I think I remember you commenting on Rick Down...if you're the same guy, and I agreed with you then and I agree with you now. There may have to be a rant about him coming.

And Tommy, your wish might come true in the near future if I can figure out how to spell his name.

Stinking Braves.

I also read something interesting about inter-league play. Here's where the six games against the Skanks kill us. If we lose the Wild Card to the Marlins by a game -- which might be fantasy after this Altanta series -- then we got hosed by the schedule, since the Fish beat up on the Devil Rays for six games.

the thing about Down--he is a "get your pitch and hit it" guy--first pitch or fifth pitch--he doesn't care. That just isn't a winning formula. While I sometimes gripe that Wright lets hittable pitches go by in big run -producing situations, I would still rather have him up than Floyd. The Mets as a team are, by and large, a passel of brain dead doofuses hacking at slop nightly. Oops!

P.S. Bat beltran fifth. Why is he getting more at-bats than David Wright?
