Thanks for finding the humor, Metstra. All e-mails and blog responses about Blum and no laughter makes Kyle a dull boy.

The "four fingers" confused me. I didn't understand because it's a football thing...There were players giving the sign on the bench right after Blum hit the dinger so that seems to be a team thing.

I remember Chuck Knoblauch giving the "throat slit" sign after the Puckett HR in game six and that rubbed people the wrong way about Knoblauch way back in his rookie season (He was later punished by higher forces with the Steve Sax disease.)

What does it mean in football?

You see players hold up four fingers at the end of the third quarter as kind of a rallying cry to say "the fourth quarter is ours!" or "it's crunch time, let's bring it!" It happens a lot in college but you see it frequently in the pros as well.

Thanks for the second, Meet the Mets. Does this mean we're pretty sure Blum wasn't indicating "four games" at all?

I wouldn't say 100% sure.

But if it was, I guess he was right.

The first place that I saw the "four fingers" was at a Chenango Forks High School football game. The Chenango Forks team - currently undefeated state champions - have used this for years.
