Olerud an "idiot".

The Red Sox, suddenly realizing that maybe it was a bad idea to trade Doug Mientkiewicz and his glove to the Mets, have signed former Met John Olerud to a minor league deal tonight. Olerud's greatest Met moment came in 1999, when his 8th inning RBI single off of John Rocker in Game 4 of the NLCS gave the Mets a 2-1 victory, which set the stage for Robin Ventura's grand slam single in Game 5, which set the stage for Kenny Rogers walking in the NLCS winning run for the Braves. As he delayed the inevitable then, Olerud has chosen to delay his inevitable retirement by signing with the Red Sox.

Olerud has reportedly been seen with sheet music to "Tessie" by the Dropkick Murphys, and is about to go on record as calling Alex Rodriguez a bush leaguer, and Lou Piniella an idiot. You know, just to fit in.

Speaking of A-Rod, congratulations to him and his wife on the recent birth of their child. Unfortunately, this child will never know the experience of having his father take him to, and pick him up from school, since Rodriguez will be too busy working harder than every other baseball player in the major leagues.
