Acme Doppler

June 14th, 2008: The Mets make fans wait 90 minutes for a rainstorm to pass, claiming that their radar told them that the storm would pass. Instead, the freakiest storm of the summer ensues, and the Mets are forced to play a doubleheader the next day.

September 12th, 2008: The Mets make fans wait 90 minutes for a rainstorm to pass, claiming that their radar gave them an "improved forecast". Instead, a storm system that forces five other games from as far away as Chicago and as close as the Bronx forces the Mets to play a doubleheader the next day.

So here's the question: Who did the Mets entrust to buy their Doppler system, Wile E. Coyote?

"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mud."

They have been rude to their fans all year. Games should be called early when there is a lousy forecast. Even if they could have gotten the game in on any given day, it's annoying to have to wonder if you should make the drive etc.

Glad you posted it, sometimes I think I'm just a crankypants - good to have someone else give them a hard time.

The name's Wile, not Wil. (So I'm nitpicking, sue me.)

I figure this Acme Doppler post is as good as any place to post the comment I've been wanting to post since last year's Amazing let down. I get so sick and tired of hearing people talk about the psychology of hitting. I just heard Fox talk about how Delgado's mood has changed, hence his amazing second half run. Time and again commentators and even former players keep repeating how the player's mood and psychology is so important.. Well I believe when it comes to hitting some of these great players need to focus on swinging level and going with the pitch. Delgado during his slump just as Wright, Beltran, Alex Rodriguez and many others during slumps simply fall in love with their swings way too much. They think their swing can hit anything into a line drive or over the fence. What they need to do is go for the gaps as the pitch dictates. When they are hot, as Delgado is now, they hit anything near the plate into a line drive or even a blop hit or slap hit.. They can still wind up and turn their beautiful swings but only when the pitcher makes a mistake or challenges with a fast ball on the plate. If Beltran and Wright start relying on their instincts and less on their magical swings the Mets would be unbeatable.. And if A-Rod did he would be Ruthian...LGM

Their Doppler is powered by the beer that people spill on the ground as they are trying to navigate the innards of Shea around all of the other people that are holding out hope and trying to stay dry. Once enough beer is purchased and spilled, they can get an accurate read on the storm.

It's a "going green" initiative.
