MIAMI -- Left-handed pitcher Oliver Perez has patellar tendinitis in his right knee and will undergo season-ending surgery, the Mets announced Wednesday afternoon. My sources tell me that in a cost cutting move, Perez and Johan Santana will perform their respective surgeries on each other. Unfortunately, that means that Perez's operation will go smoothly while Santana will accidentally be stabbed in the neck. He will not be ready for spring training.
Team medical director Dr. David Atlchek examined Perez Wednesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The Mets expect Perez to be ready for Spring Training.

Gone for the season?
Wow. Christmas in August.
Will they be holding tryouts to get a new pitcher? Is there a rule that forbids girls to play? Because you know, at 45, with a bad knee and tendency to throw like a girl I might still be an upgrade over Ollie.
So who is left? Pelf and a couple of guys they picked up from the sandlot?
Oy. This season cannot end soon enough.
The picture is killing me.
