Don't Stare Directly At Moises' Hamstring

The post was supposed to be all sunshine tonight. Johan Santana continued the newfound dominance of the starting staff. Fluff Castro gave Johan some runs, and finally got to raise that finger after hitting a home run (how long before the Florida Marlins complain about his hotdogging?) Even Aaron Heilman remained (gasp!) good, as the Mets win streak reached five and all is well in Flushing.

But the sunshine is blocked by yet another Moises Alou injury. This time, while rehabbing his calf in Binghamton, his hamstring cramped up.

When asked about the Alou injury, Billy Wagner reportedly said "f***ing shocker."

There's something incongruous about Brett Favre still making up his mind about whether to play or not and keeping an entire city on edge, while Alou ... who has done almost everything in this game ... would still ride buses at age 41 just to get back to the show to try to win a World Series. But he can't because the muscles in his legs are made out of Charleston Chews.

Meanwhile the Mets are faced with trying to win the division with Fernando Tatis and Endy Chavez as the regular corner outfielders.

Bring Xavier home.

Foo on you! I no longer care about Alou. Not long ago we were "trying to win a division title" with aging bench player Jose Valentin as our second baseman. The Mets' Super Subs are still super.

Add Nick Evans to the mix also. Maybe he's for real. Miracle Mets 2008!

The longer Moises stays on the A.L. (The "Alou List"), the better.

I'll take the Endy & Fernando Show over Alou's bad defense and GIDPs any day.

and don't forget about Angel Pagan! I read last week that he was better and would likely not require surgery. He'll probably be back before Moises.

Regarding Moises Alou I will quote The Sopranos beloved Paulie Walnuts: "He's dead to me".

I think Matty Alou has a better chance of making it back to the bigs.

How do we get Nady? Or Bay? What can we possibly offer? Heilman and Niese? Don't think that will do it. Adam Dunn may be available but that would give us two Carlos Delgados in the lineup.

Adam Dunn?

There are probably 150 better outfielders in professional baseball. Seriously, Dunn sucks. I don't care how many homers he hits. I got no love for Dunn and I hope Omar don't neither.

Oh and by the way, today the Mets make it six in a row against the lowly Giants! Let's go Mets!

Mike -

Moises had 13 GIDP last year.

While hitting 341 with a 392 obp, 524 slg % and 138 OPS+

Do we really expect Endy and Tatis to do that?

Tatis' defense is not so good either.

I think Alou's rehab schedule was too demanding. Starting off at AA? He should have had a couple rehab starts with the Sand Gnats

BWAHAHAHAA! mutt$ are probably trying to sign Barock Sadam-a to play left field! Libs always stick together!

I can't wait until Zito shuts you out this afternoon!

Life is good!

wtf was that last comment about?!?!

I just hope Minaya either:

(a) has been planning to replace Alou all along and is just being diplomatic publicly or
(b) has now opened his eyes to the fact that Alou is finished and will aggressively pursue and major league replacement.

Let go Mets! They are halfway to getting the ball rolling based on my previously mentioned study.

Sammy Sosa is ready to come back! Omar has him on autodial and just needs to push the button.

Don't look now but Omar just signed Tatis to a 5 year $27 million deal. Oh boy!!

What a pisser it would be if the Mets are in first place by the All-Star Game!
Oh btw, I am delighted that Wright finished second. Go home to Virginia. Chill out. Rest. Same with the rest of the Mets. Who cares about the All-Star Game anymore? Especially one played in that rat-trap in The Bronx.
